My Four Step Process

There will be a large amount of reflecting and journaling that I will be participating in, so that I can adopt not only adopt a “Growth Mindset” but also so that I will be able to teach my students the importance of a “Growth Mindset”.

The 4 steps that Carol Dweck explains are:

  1. Step 1: Learn to hear your fixed mindset “voice.”
  2. Step 2: Recognize that you have a choice.
  3. Step 3: Talk back to it with a growth mindset voice.
  4. Step 4: Take the growth mindset action.

Why are these important?

  • These 4 steps are important, because they will correct and reassure me that I am taking the right route. Sometimes as people we second guess ourselves, but by asking ourselves tough questions and motivating ourselves to do better we will improve and grow. We will not excel if things are constantly simplified and easy. Growth comes from being challenged and pushing ourselves to be better.
  • Step 1: Will be the toughest task for me, because I always doubt myself. Whenever I want to try something new and innovative, sometimes there is a voice in my head that says, “Girl you know you can’t do that.” I will have to start ignoring this voice and replacing “Can’t” with “Can”.
  • Step 2: After I change the “voice” in my head that tells me what I am not capable of, then I will remember that it is my choice to change my mindset. I have to remember that hard work and persistence will get me to the places that I want to go. I have th choice to create my own path and success.
  • Step 3: When I block out the negative “voice” and choose to adopt my “growth mindset” I will then create my plan that I will follow. To follow my plan I will make sure that I write it on paper or type it up on my computer. I need to be able to see my plan daily, so it needs to be easily accessible and visible.
  • Step 4: This is the most important step. I will remember to take charge and put my “growth mindset” to use. I will follow through with my plan and take part in all of the work. This may include receiving feedback from others, challenging tasks and barriers, but I have to stay focused.
